Record Governance

Which system may maintain a shared record? Record Governance answers that question. It is separate from identifying the record and deciding where copies go.
How it works
-
Identity identifies the record.
-
Distribution specifies which systems receive it.
-
Governance identifies which system may maintain it.
A system can receive and use a record without gaining authority to change it. A Subscription gives it the information, not maintenance authority.
Why it matters
Systems can receive the information they need while authority remains clear. If an asset moves to another business unit, authority for its record can move too. The record keeps the same ID.
What governance does not tell us
Authority does not guarantee accuracy. We still need validation, review, and operating procedures to keep information accurate, current, and complete. Any performance effects need to be measured in the actual environment.
